Assignment Term 2 - Double Sided Tape

In media I finally brought my tape! I used my tape in my animation and it finally looked a lot better.

This is a rough copy of my animation and I probably won't be using this in my final copy. It is a bit jerky at times and I will try to make the animation a lot smoother. I learnt from my many attempts at animation, is that you need a lot of patience. I do not have a lot of patience so I find animation quite hard.

Animation Assignment - Addition and Smoothness

In media today I re-did my animation and I had enough time to make it longer than the other. I wanted to make this one very smooth, so I could use some bits of this animation in my real assignment just in case they don't turn out as smooth.

In some scenes the LEGO floor would jerk around, the main reason of this was because I didn't have my double sided tape. I have purchased it but I had forgotten to take to the lesson. I needed to tape to help the floor stay in place, this will work and will make my animation look more professional and less jerky.

Assignment - Trial Run

*BE WARNED THIS WAS JUST A TRIAL I WILL NOT BE USING THIS IN MY FILM*

I trialled the first 11 seconds of my assignment, just so I could get the hang of iStopmotion, as i hadn't used it since year 7. Some improvements I could make is trying not to make the set move around in each shot as that does look unprofessional and jerky. To fix this problem I am thinking of buying some double sided tape so everything sticks together and they won't move. There also a few issues with my lighting, as the lamps made weird lines during the shots making them look super weird. I am trying to find solutions to this problem, by asking Mr Andrews if there is another alternative for using a different light. Here's what I did:

LEGO - The Magic Portal

Today in media, Mr Andrews showed me a video of the very first LEGO film made. It was made around 1985 - 1989. I really liked this video as it showed me different ways for me to make my characters walk. The didn't use the same technique as I am going to use in my film. It still looked realistic and it looked good. I am going to trial this walk the next time I can film. The whole purpose of an animation is to make things happen that doesn't actually happen in real life. This video was based around a space theme, with robots, spaceships and other science fiction elements. A time portal was the main idea of the film, as the characters went through the time portal and visited other places. I especially liked the end of the film as I wasn't really expecting it to happen. I thought the end would just be them returning home and everything would be all happy and smiley. Instead, they show the creator being frustrated about what the characters messing up his set of the video. This was really cool when the character was walking around while he was building the set in fast motion, a really cool effect.

Assignment Reflection

I have finished my planning and I am ready to start animating. I think my plan is detailed and I am organised with all my props and characters. It took me quite a while to make all my props, as I wanted them to look really detailed. I also made some back drops for my school scenes and my city scenes. I still need to make some more buildings, but I won't be filming those scenes for a while. I can say I am well organised and I think my animation will run smoothly. Of course I will bump into some problems but not as many as I think I will.
